Hello,

I’m a government administrator who is tasked with assisting handicapped individuals.

One of the people I assist is a thalidomide victim. He is middle aged and occupies a townhouse unit in an aged complex. The townhouse was modified to suit his lifestyle. At the time , a standard toilet bowl was provided. The tenant used a stepped device to haul himself up the to level of the pan. This daily chore is now becoming much more difficult for him. A better solution is required.

I have been to Asia many times on vacation. I have seen Asian squat toilets. This type of toilet would suit our tenants needs perfectly.

The problem here is that I cannot find a product of this type for sale in Australia. This is surprising given the large Asian population in metropolitan areas of Australia.

It seems to me that the only possible alternative is to acquire an Asian squat toilet from overseas. This is not as simple as it sounds. I work for a government department. It is not the norm for the our government department to import this type of product. We have a maintenance contractor who would carry out the work , but they are not going to commit to the purchase of such a product until I obtain approval for the required funds.

Our government department has never provided a squat toilet in any property since its inception in the late 1930’s. This would be a first. Given that our disabled tenants are getting older , perhaps this may not be the last.

Do you have a contact in Australia that I could deal with ? Alternatively , what would be the cost to import an Asian squat toilet in Australian dollars ? I need some solid information so that I can take a proposal to my senior managers for approval. Can you assist ?

Regards
